Mercer County Court House
The new Mercer County Criminal Courthouse located at 400 South Warren Street was erected behind the former criminal courthouse, a classical Beaux Arts building constructed in 1903 that faces South Broad Street. The new, 142,000-square-foot building meets environmentally friendly LEED standards. The total project cost $80 million and included demolition of a parking garage and preparation of the site for construction.
The new, four-story Criminal Courthouse opened on January 14, 2013. The basement level houses Sheriff Offices and detainees who are scheduled for court appearances. The above-ground floors house Probation, Intake/Community Service Unit, Probation Drug Court, Criminal Case Management Records, nine courtrooms and associated judges' chambers and administrative offices.
The Mercer County Improvement Authority provided the financing and managed the construction of the project. The completed project has enhanced the downtown district in the City of Trenton at the same time providing much needed improvements to Superior Courts of the Mercer County vicinage.
